Michael Annett's day at I-70
ends early. LaCrosse and the 37th annual Oktoberfest weekend up next
for the TMC Racing Team.
By Rising Star Driver Development/M.P.H.
Promotions
Des Moines, Iowa (09/27/2006):
Michael Annett and his new TMC Racing Team was hoping
that a return appearance at a track where Annett made his ASA Late Model
Series Northern Division debut would result in enough success to give
the team a legitimate shot at the Appleton Rack and Pinions Rookie of
the Year title.
Annett and the TMC Racing Team returned to the site of Annett's auto racing
career debut and in one of the biggest events of the 2006 season. The Steve
Oliver Automart North VS South All-Star Shootout/World Cup 200 at the wicked
fast high-banked of the I-70 (MO) Speedway in Odessa, Missouri this past Saturday
and Sunday September 23-24, 2006.
" I was really excited to get to I-70 with our new team," stated Annett
as he reflected on the World Cup weekend. "We were missing some speed throughout
the whole day on Saturday. By the end of the day though we knew we had a car
that would make the race and be competitive," he added.
As Sunday morning rolled out, Annett knew he had to qualify into the show since
the team was brand new, they had no ASALMS North Owners Points to fall back
on in case a provisional was needed.
" We were not happy with our qualifying efforts, but we were confident that
the car would race better than it qualified," continued the Des Moines,
Iowa freshman. "I knew there would be some early cautions so I just tried
to keep my nose clean through the first 100 laps," Annett stated.
Annett came into the 10 minute break at _ way in 10th spot. "At the break
we were going to try and fix the tight condition that developed towards the
end of the first 100 laps," remarked Annett. "About 30 laps into
the second 100, the car got extremely loose and I was just trying to hang on
to it for the remainder of the race."
Unfortunately for Annett, his day would come to an end as on lap 160, Annett
spun coming out of turn four and slammed into the inside front stretch retaining
wall, ending his afternoon. "I was coming off of turn four and the back
end just snapped around," he explained.
" I was really disappointed for all my guys on the TMC racing crew. I know
how much work they have put into the car and they deserve good finishes," Annett
added. "We have a great group of guys on our team and I know that we will
take what we learned at Odessa and put it towards races to come in the future," he
ended.
So far in his first season of ASALMS Northern Division competition and with
one points event to go, the Hawkeye State driver has recorded three Top Five
finishes with two of those being runner-up showings. His first podium finish
came back on July 14, 2006 at the Motordrome (PA) Speedway during the NAPA
Auto Parts 100.
The Des Moines, Iowa freshman stands eighth in the overall points standings
for the ASALMS Northern Division Championship.
This is Annett's first season behind the wheel of a race car! Prior to beginning
his racing career this year, Annett was an accomplished Minor League Hockey
Player. Annett began his hockey career at six years old and retired at the
end of the 2004-2005 season after completing the season with the Waterloo Black
Hawks of the United States Hockey League (USHL).
In his last two seasons of his hockey career, the now 20-year-old Annett played
on two Clark Cup Championship teams for Waterloo. Prior to his career in Waterloo,
Annett played for Team Illinois that won the 2002 Calgary Mac's AAA Hockey
Tournament.
In addition to Annett's chase for the Appleton Rack and Pinions Rookie of the
Year title in the ASALMS Northern Division, Annett will also be running a select
schedule at the South Boston (VA) Speedway in a car provided by Barry Beggarly
in the tracks NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series.
For the remainder of the 2006 season, Annett will carry sponsorship on the
side of his Monte Carlo SS from; TMC Transportation as well as Benson International,
Allstate Peterbilt Group, Rising Star Driver Development, Pilot Travel Centers
and Northland Motor Oil and Lubricants.
