HALL MAKES A TOP-TEN DEBUT
AT NASHVILLE
By Rising Star Driver Development/Kevin
Ramsell
Tuesday, November 07, 2006 (Leesburg, GA)
Prior to leaving his Leesburg, GA residence and making
the trek to the Music City Motorplex in Nashville, TN, Devan Hall felt
he had a good car and the chance at a good finish in the ASA Late Model
Series All-American 200. The positive attitude and the hard work paid
off as the 17-year-old driver took home a 10th place finish in his first
visit to the historical 5/8 mile oval.
" We left for Nashville with a very open mind Thursday afternoon," Hall
stated. "I was really looking forward to making some laps on this track
since it was the biggest track I have been to."
Hall spent Friday and Saturday battling a tight race car. "We were left
scratching our heads in concern especially since we knew that we need a super
lap just to get in the race with a high car count," Hall commented. After
consulting with chassis builder Robert Hamke and Jeff
Sandt from Pro Shocks, Hall went out as the 59th car out of a total of 61 to
qualify. His time of 19.150 seconds put him 14th in time and a guaranteed spot
into the All-American 200 on Sunday.
Hall started 14th in the 200-lap feature event on Sunday. For the first half
of the race, he stayed in the top 15 while avoiding wrecks and battling with
a tight race car. "We had advanced to 12th by the competition yellow on
lap 100.”
Hall felt they had made the wrong gear selection, since he was not able to
get the jump on the re-starts as the others. "We lost track position on
restarts due to this but we were able to pick up positions on long green flag
runs," Hall stated.
During the second half of the race, Hall's car would get faster during long
green flag runs. "Our car was very slow on cold tires," Hall explained. "But
if we could get a long green flag run, our car would get better and we could
make some progress on long runs."
Hall was running ninth until the final caution flew with 10 laps to go. "I
got passed by 2 cars and got one of the spots back and finished tenth." Hall
was one of twelve cars to finish on the lead lap behind winner Eddie Hoffman.
For the first time appearance at the facility that started the careers of Darrell
Waltrip, Sterling Marlin, Bobby Hamilton and many more, Devan Hall will someday
be another driver to be added to that list. "I believe we had a better
car than where we finished," Hall stated after the race. "But I was
very satisfied with 10th place since this was my first attempt at the All-American
400 weekend and was my first ever race at the Music City Motorplex."
